Segundo EP de Samael, banda suiza de Black Metal. Este disco puede ser considerado como de transición, ya que consolidó el sonido que Samael había estrenado en Ceremony of Opposites, reversionando a su estilo evolucionado un par de temas de su antiguo repertorio (After the sepulture e Into the pentagram), y agregando un cover de Alice Cooper.

Contiene los siguientes temas:

  1. "Rebellion". Tema que parece aludir a la lucha eterna entre el Bien y el Mal, y al papel del ser humano en medio de ambas grandes fuerzas.
  2. "After The Sepulture". Se refiere al momento de la muerte, y cómo después de ésta el mundo se cierra para el moribundo.
  3. "I Love The Dead". Tema que hace alusiones a la necrofilia.
  4. "Static Journey". Tema instrumental.
  5. "Into The Pentagram". Tema de clara vocación satánica, en la cual quien invoca en el pentagrama está a salvo y tiene poder o control sobre su entorno.

El disco presenta además un hidden track de aproximadamente doce minutos, y que contiene dos temas. Uno de ellos es un tema instrumental innominado, y el otro es una versión hablada de "Static Journey".

Notas.

  • Fue editado entre los EP Ceremony of Opposites (1994) y Passage (1996). Es el primer EP de Samael desde Medieval Prophecy (1989). El siguiente será Exodus (1998).
  • Sólo los temas Rebellion, Static Journey y el instrumental escondido en el hidden track son temas nuevos. El resto son reversiones de temas antiguos, y un cover.
  • Samael reversiona por primera vez dos de sus temas antiguos: After the Sepulture (del disco Blood Ritual e Into the Pentagram (del disco Worship Him).
  • Samael graba un cover de Alice Cooper: I Love the Dead. Este tema procede del disco Million Dollar Baby de Alice Cooper, y fue grabado en 1973. Es el primer cover de Samael grabado desde 1987, y será el último hasta 2005 (ver On Earth).
  • El tema Static Journey es el más industrial que Samael compuso hasta la fecha de Rebellion, y contiene dos versiones musicalmente idénticas, siendo la del track #3 puramente instrumental, y la del hidden track con letra. Además es, junto con la versión en alemán de On Earth (2005), el único tema que Samael ha grabado en ese idioma.
  • La portada de este disco presenta las cabezas de dos serpientes, una blanca y una negra, cuyas cabezas están enterlazadas como el símbolo del Yin y el Yang. El círculo interno dentro de cada campo ("negro en el blanco" y "blanco en el negro") es ocupado por un huevo del color respectivo, sostenido entre las mandíbulas de la serpiente respectiva.
  • De este EP, el disco compilatorio Aeonics sólo incluye el tema Rebellion; a pesar de incluir After the Sepulture e Into the Pentagram, éstas son las versiones originales, y no las reversiones de este EP. Refiriéndose al tema Rebellion en el booklet del mencionado Aeonics, Vorph cita a Blaise Pascal ("Who wants to be an angel become a beast"), y se refiere luego a la ruptura de la armonía interior y al estar en guerra con uno mismo ("we're at war with oneself").
