Respect (Respeto en español) canción soul que se convirtió en un himno en 1967 en la voz de Aretha Franklin. En la autobiografía del productor de Aretha, Jerry Wexler, dice que para Otis, la palabra respeto tenía el sentido más abstracto de estima; la connotación tradicional. Pero que la voz de Aretha exigía ese respeto y también una tensión sexual de primer orden, algo acentuado por los coros de parte de Aretha y Carolyn que dicen a gran velocidad: "Sock it to me". Como la versión de Aretha no tenía puente entre las estrofas, Wexler ordenó a la banda que tocara los cambios de acordes de otra canción: "When something is wrong with my baby", de Sam & Dave; también se le añadió un solo de saxo por parte de King Curtis. No hay duda de que la ferocidad en la interpretación de Franklin en la canción venía de su matrimonio problemático.
